Episcopal Young Churchpersons (EYC)

Advent's Youth Group, called EYC, is for youth in grades 6-12 and meets most Sunday nights from 6pm-8pm. We play games, look at scripture, pray for one another, and have a great time getting to know one another and God. Everyone shares a meal together between 6:00 and 6:30. Visitors are welcome and we encourage the students to bring their friends!

At the center of youth ministry is learning to follow Jesus and obey the things he commanded us. The way Jesus' disciples learned to do this was by following him around and by trying to do what he did. The best way for our students to learn to do this is very similar. It is by having relationships with adults who are following Jesus who can show them what that looks like and who can encourage them to try it out themselves. That may be their parents, their grandparents, and/or other adults in the church.

We are assembling a team of leaders who will be committed to sharing their lives with the youth of Advent and to help them learn about their world.

We are calling these people Sherpas, or servant guides. Sherpas are an ethnic group in the Himalayas who are known for their skills in guiding mountaineering expeditions. They serve those going on these journeys by carrying supplies and guiding teams. They know the mountains better than anyone and they share the mountains with those who have come for adventure.

Our team of Sherpas know Jesus and share him with anyone who wants to adventure with Him.

Sherpas intentionally build relationships with students in order to love and support them in their faith. They meet regularly to support one another. We have a couple of events each month in order to serve and to enjoy each others company. Everything we do will be infused with prayer and scripture.

Throughout the year we also try to love our neighbor through service and
to go into the world in mission.
